Educational Content

We teach an adapted version of the British National Curriculum, and follow a scheme called EQUALS in the secondary part of the school (with pupils aged 11 to 19).

There are around 7 pupils per classroom.

We place much emphasis upon communication skills, social skills and independence skills at Ysgol Maes y Coed.

All of our pupils have Individual Education Plans that target areas for development according to each pupil’s individual needs.

Many of our pupils have specific Individual Behaviour Plans, Care Plans, Speech and Language Therapy Plans, Feeding Plans and Physiotherapy Plans.

Some pupils integrate into mainstream schools for certain sessions.

Some pupils aged over 16 have support to complete work experience.
Educational Facilities

We have a wide range of specialised facilities and equipment to teach our pupils, including a hydrotherapy pool, therapy rooms, a sensory room, soft play room, daily living skills room and sensory garden.

Many of our pupils require daily medical care, so we have a school nurse permanently based at Ysgol Maes y Coed.

There are many professionals that visit school to work with each classroom, including Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Multi-Sensory Input Therapists, Social Workers, Doctors and Reflexologists to name a few.
